Coach Mark Beaty grew up in South Carolina, definitely not lacrosse
country. He learned the game playing on the University of South
Carolina's club team. He then moved to Orlando, where he played for 12
years on the Orlando Lacrosse Club, also serving as the club's
treasurer, vice president and president. He has also served as treasurer
and vice president of the Florida Men's Lacrosse League.
Coach Beaty started the boys' lacrosse team at Winter Park High School in 1991, where he immediately began to make his mark. In 12 years at Winter Park, Coach Beaty led the team to a 123-30 record, an incredible .804 career winning percentage. He was also named to U.S. Lacrosse Hall of Fame Century Club, one of only three Florida coaches to garner 100 wins in their careers. Since the beginning of the Central Florida High School Lacrosse League, Coach Beaty dominated the sport, winning 7 Central Florida Championships since the inaugural game in 1993. He led the Wildcats to the Florida State Championship game for four consecutive years - from 1998 to 2001. In 1999, Coach Beaty led the Wildcats to a 21-0 season and the state championship, becoming the only Central Florida boy's squad to ever win the state title. His fellow coaches named him 1998 Central Florida Coach of the Year. The following year, the Winter Park boys lacrosse program received the 1999 Central Florida Amateur Athletic Award for Top Performance for a boy's team. And in 2002, the local U.S. Lacrosse Chapter named Coach Beaty Central Florida Man of the Year. In his career, he has coached 8 All-Americans and one Academic All-American. |
Coach
Tom O’Grady has enjoyed tremendous success during 25 years as a player
and coach. After playing as a high-school all-star on Long Island, he
earned two national championships at Nassau Community College, the elite
junior-college program in the country. He then played at Adelphi
University, where he played defensive midfielder in the 1985 NCAA Division
1 National Championship Tournament. In 1991, he returned to Adelphi as the
team’s defensive coordinator.
After college, O’Grady served as offensive coordinator at Mepham High School in Long Island, where he teamed with lacrosse Hall of Famer John DeTomasso, now head coach of the Major Lacrosse League’s Long Island Lizards. At Oakland Mills High School in Maryland, O’Grady helped lead the team to one county championship, two regional championships and consecutive appearances in the state championship final four. In 1995, O’Grady became president of the Orlando Lacrosse Club. He also launched the boys’ lacrosse program at Lyman High School and, in two years, led the team to a Central Florida championship and the Florida high school state championship. In 1998, O’Grady took over the helm as head coach of the Winter Park High School girls lacrosse team, and led the Wildcats to the regional championship game each of his four years. In 2002, the team won the regional championship and played in the state championship – and O’Grady became the only Florida coach to take both a boys’ and girls’ team to the state championship. During his tenure, the Wildcats had four All-Americans, 30 Academic All-Americans and four valedictorians as they compiled a 50-19 record. |
